WOMEN IN HUMANITIES VISITING FELLOWSHIP

WOMEN IN HUMANITIES VISITING FELLOWSHIP

Application Guidance
About Women in the Humanities
Women in the Humanities  is an interdisciplinary programme that aims to explore how gender and sex play out in history, art, philosophy, music, language and literature, as well as the ethics and politics of gender identity and equality in the Humanities. It seeks to promote the opportunities Oxford offers to women working in the Humanities at all career stages, as well as promoting the study of women’s lives within the Humanities at the University.
Visiting Research Fellowship
A visiting fellowship worth £1,500 is available to scholars working on women’s lives, identities and representations in the humanities (broadly defined). The fellowship is intended to cover some of the costs associated with undertaking research in Oxford and can be taken up at any time between  25 April 2016  until  21 June 2018 . Applications that forge new collaborations, or significantly strengthen existing collaborations with Oxford postholders into women’s lives, experiences, and/or representation will be particularly welcome. Applications that include activities open to graduate students, such as reading groups and workshops, or those that involve teaching as well as research collaborations will also be received favourably. Fellows will be affiliated with The Oxford Research Centre for the Humanities (TORCH), are expected to reside in Oxford for the duration of the fellowship and to attend regular research seminars.
Eligibility
The Fellowships are open to those who hold permanent faculty positions and are working on women’s lives, identities and representation in the humanities. They are open to postdoctoral scholars who have had at least 3 years in a full-time or part-time permanent academic post.
Each visiting fellow must have a named host or collaborator, who is a current postholder (an academic in a permanent academic post) at Oxford University. The host is expected to collaborate in the writing of the application for the visiting fellowship, and they must make the application from their Oxford email address.
Application process
The deadline to submit applications is noon,  15 January 2016.  Applications should be submitted by the Oxford host/collaborator via their Oxford email address to   wihadmin@torch.ox.ac.uk . Proposals will be assessed by members of the Steering Committee of Women in the Humanities.
Applications should take the form of a short written proposal, using  this template . Every application must be accompanied by a 1-2 page c.v., and two academic references. One reference must come from a head of department approving this application and giving their consent to the applicant spending the specified amount of time in Oxford. The other reference should come from an expert in the candidate’s field. Referees must send their reference from an institutional email address, or on headed paper, to the WiH address by the application deadline.
Only applications which include all the above-mentioned documentation will be considered.
Outcomes of application & taking up an Award
• Applicants will be notified of the outcomes of their applications via email by  19 February 2016 .
• Successful applicants will be able to promote their projects through the Women in Humanities – TORCH website as well as use rooms in the Radcliffe Humanities Building.
The successful applicant will be required to engage in the intellectual life of WiH while they are in Oxford by attending and presenting a paper at a relevant research seminar series and by attending and initiating research activities within WiH. They will be required to produce a short report of the activities undertaken and their outcomes and, where possible, provide a visual record for use on the WiH website.
A condition of taking up the award is that WiH is acknowledged on all publications that result from this award.
